The "Realistic
Application" of Budo Taijutsu in Threat Situations
Bujinkan Seminar
with Shidoshi John Owsiak (9th Dan)
June 8th - June
10th, 2012
We
would like to invite everyone to our seminar on June 8th - June 10th,
2012. Everyone is welcome to train with us; there are no rank requirements
and no experience is necessary. Even if you are a beginner, you can train
with experienced instructors. We respect any and all affiliations and
arts at this event.
It
will be taking place in Huntington, WV at the Taigun Martial Arts Center
located at 1455 4th Avenue.
There
will be two days of training - 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, June 9th
and 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM on Sunday, June 10th. Registration will take place
from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 9th during the training.
The
dojo is centrally-located and near many local restaurants and attractions
for those of you wishing to explore the area. Additionally, there will
be an old-fashioned barbeque and party on Saturday, June 9th. Here there
will also be a drawing for a hand-crafted wakizashi.
There
are many hotels in the surrounding area starting at $79/day. Do a Google
search for hotels in Huntington, West Virginia and you'll find a list
of local hotels.
We
(as students of all ranks) train in the Nine Warrior Traditions of Budo
Taijutsu / Bujinkan Ninjutsu. These traditions are more than just aspects
of a martial system - they are an art of survival. With threats of crimes
being committed against us or our families and fellow community members,
we must gain more knowledge about how our skills can be used in real-world
scenarios. We must truly understand how to apply our Budo Taijutsu in
times of danger, when a threat presents itself.
This
seminar will take a realistic approach to the art when one is faced with
a true threat. According to our Soke, Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi, the basis of
all our Taijutsu in the Bujinkan is the Kihon Happo. "Kihon Happo"
literally translates to "Eight Basic Ways." There are some martial
artists who have seen the Kihon Happo practiced that have suggested the
techniques would be useless in a real fight. What we are going to demonstrate
is how they are applied in real combative situations, or "Shinken
Gata." In an actual combat situation, these techniques will not work
like they do when we practice - this is why Soke Hatsumi stresses that
each basic technique should lead to a minimum of eight more techniques.
This prevents the student from relying on the basic forms in a threatening
situation where anything can happen.
We
are opening our doors to all people interested in joining us for this
training experience that will reflect the Warrior Traditions of Budo Taijutsu
/ Bujinkan Ninjutsu. It will be led by Shidoshi John Owsiak (Kudan - 9th
Dan). Shidoshi Owsiak teaches at the Columbus Georgia Bujinkan Dojo. He
began his training in Ninjutsu under Shihan Jeff Davis in January 2000.
Shidoshi Owsiak received his Shodan in the Hombu Dojo in 2004 and passed
his Godan test in July 2008. He has been co-teaching at the Columbus Georgia
Bujinkan Dojo with Shidoshi Carlito Flores since March 2009. Now, as the
lead instructor, he continues his teaching of the art with IBDA Dojos.
Shidoshi Owsiak has made numerous trips to Japan to study under Soke Hatsumi
and continues to grow in his teachings.
A
note to participants: this is an adult-only seminar - no children under
the age of 18 are permitted to participate in the activities. Please contact
us at taigun2012@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns. You
can also visit our website at www.taigundojo.com.
You
may pay for a one-day ticket or for both days, but please remember to
print off your receipt so that we can check it at the door.
Happy
training and best wishes,
The
Taigun Martial Arts Center
